Schedule 2023 – Festival Envol & Macadam

After celebrating its 25th anniversary last year, the Envol et Macadam festival is ready to continue its mission of showcasing the best of alternative music and emerging artists from Quebec and beyond! Presented in collaboration with Molson Export, the 2023 edition of the event will take place from September 14th to 16th at l’Agora Port de Québec. As the site of Îlot Fleurie is not available, music lovers will be invited to the banks of the Saint Lawrence River this year, in this performance space that offers a magnificent view of the capital. Several indoor concerts will also be offered throughout the festival at venues such as l’Anti Bar & Spectacles, le Scanner, l’Espaces Dalhousie, and le Quartier de Lune.

A must-see :

We will kick off the festivities at Agora with a 100% Quebecois musical lineup on Friday. Quebec’s own band Hate It Too will be the ones to set the stage alive, followed by the seasoned rockers Dance Laury Dance, who will be offering their very last concert that night, a moment that promises to be rich in emotions. The audience will then be treated to a dose of the irresistible cocktail of alternative rock and punk by Groovy Aardvark before witnessing the performance of Quebec’s metal veterans, Voivod. The evening will conclude with the gentle sounds of Mononc’ Serge and Anonymus – celebrating the 20th anniversary of L’Académie du Massacre.

On Saturday, we will navigate the waters of punk rock, ska, and hardcore. Quebec-based bands Crachat and Don’t Try will lead us through this ultimate day of shows. The iconic punk ska band MAP will reunite for a special concert, a musical moment that the organization is very proud of. We will stay in the ska stream with the Boston-based group Big D and the Kids Table, who will be joining us. Next up, the pioneers of the New York hardcore scene, Agnostic Front, will take the stage at Agora, followed by the Californian band Rancid, who will close out this 26th edition of Envol et Macadam. It’s been over a dozen years since Tim Armstrong’s band performed in the capital, so these are highly anticipated reunions for the fans.

Numerous indoor shows will also be offered in the late evenings, including on Thursday. Notably, the punk rock bands Drunktank (Holland) and Ten Foot Pole (United States) will open the festival at L’Anti Bar & Spectacles. The detailed schedule is available on the website.

*From Europe to Quebec with Planetrox

Launched in 2011, the Planetrox project is an initiative created in collaboration with Quebec City to introduce the best emerging international artists to the Envol et Macadam audience. Over the years, more than 10,000 bands have submitted their applications with the goal of showcasing their music. This year, the organization has partnered with the Rock for People festival held in the Czech Republic. Out of the 90 bands registered for Planetrox Europe, five have been selected to participate in the final, which will be presented during Rock for People on June 8th. The winning band will then be invited to perform in Quebec city as part of Envol et Macadam in September.

A new activity : Exo’s Game of Skate

The punk rock culture and the world of skateboarding have always been naturally intertwined; the Exoshop store has, in fact, been a valuable partner of Envol et Macadam for many years. This alliance between the two worlds will be celebrated with a brand new addition to the festival’s lineup: the Exo Game of Skate. On Saturday afternoon, the audience will be able to watch a series of events featuring several professional skateboarders, and attendance is free. A cash prize will be awarded to the winner at the end of the competition. Skateboard lessons/workshops will also be offered on-site during the afternoon by the Qc.SkateboardCamp team.
